Logiwolf vs. Google Analytics 4 2026

Why DACH companies are moving away from Google Analytics in 2026 – and why Logiwolf is the obvious alternative for Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

Updated 25 May 2026 · Reading time: approx. 9 minutes

The short version

Google Analytics is powerful and free, but legally tricky in the DACH region: a cookie banner is mandatory, data flows to the US, and GA4's set-up is complex. Logiwolf offers 90% of the web analytics features that matter, is GDPR and revFADP compliant without consent, hosts in Switzerland and installs with one line of code.

Switching makes sense if: you operate in the DACH region, want no cookie banner, need legal certainty, or need heatmaps and replays that GA doesn't offer at all.

Privacy and legal certainty

The biggest difference is privacy. Since the Schrems II ruling (2020), several EU authorities have ruled the use of Google Analytics without extra safeguards inadmissible, because personal data is transferred to the US.

In Switzerland the revFADP has applied since September 2023, with similar requirements. To keep using GA you need processing agreements, IP anonymisation and always an opt-in cookie banner.

Logiwolf collects no personal data: no cookies, no fingerprints, everything on Swiss servers. That removes the banner and the whole compliance theatre around Schrems II.

GA sets the _ga cookie and other consent-requiring cookies, so you need a consent banner. 40 to 70% of visitors decline, and you see only a fraction of your traffic.

Logiwolf doesn't have this problem: no banner, no consent, you see 100% of your traffic and visitors get no annoying overlay.

Feature comparison in detail

GA4 looks feature-rich, but much of it is too complex or enterprise-only. Here are the features that really matter for most websites:

What both offer

  • Visitor counts, visits, pageviews, bounce rate, time on site
  • Device, browser and operating system data
  • Geolocation (country, region, city)
  • Sources (direct, referral, search, social)
  • Real-time data
  • Conversion goals and events
  • UTM parameters

What only Logiwolf offers

  • Heatmaps – click and scroll visualisation per page
  • Session Replays – anonymised playback of real user sessions
  • Cookie-free conversion tracking without Tag Manager
  • No data sampling – even at high traffic
  • Up to 10 years data retention in the Enterprise plan
  • Swiss hosting with local support

What only Google Analytics offers

  • Direct integration with Google Ads and Search Console
  • BigQuery export (in the paid GA360 version)
  • Predictive audiences for Ads campaigns
  • A massive community and third-party integrations

Without Google Ads optimisation or complex attribution, there's little reason to stay. Otherwise you'd add heatmaps and replays via extra tools like Hotjar, with their own privacy questions.

Pricing and total cost

“Free” is only true on the price tag. A GDPR-compliant GA4 set-up with Tag Manager, a consent tool, server-side tagging and consulting quickly runs to several thousand francs one-off, plus ongoing consent-tool costs.

Logiwolf has a clear, fair pricing model:

  • Free – CHF 0 / month, 2,000 pageviews, 1 website
  • Starter – CHF 6.95 / month, 25,000 pageviews, 5 websites
  • Pro – CHF 29.95 / month, 100,000 pageviews, 25 websites
  • Enterprise – CHF 119.95 / month, unlimited pageviews, unlimited websites

Performance impact on your website

The GA script (gtag.js) is around 45 KB and costs noticeable load time. The Logiwolf script is under 2 KB with practically no impact, a measurable win for Core Web Vitals and SEO.

Migration: how do I switch from GA to Logiwolf?

Switching is straightforward:

  1. Create a Logiwolf account (free, no credit card)
  2. Add your domain
  3. Add the code line before the closing </head> tag
  4. Optional: keep Google Analytics running in parallel for 1–2 months to compare data
  5. Once everything checks out: remove the GA code and the cookie banner

To keep historical GA data, export your key reports as CSV or PDF before pausing the property. A direct import isn't possible, GA IDs are personal data.

When is Logiwolf better, when is GA?

Logiwolf is the better choice if:

  • You operate in the DACH region and need legal certainty
  • You're done with cookie banners and consent management
  • You want heatmaps and replays included (no extra tools)
  • You prefer clear dashboards you understand instantly
  • You value Swiss hosting and data ownership
  • You want to see real visitor numbers – not just those who accepted consent

Google Analytics remains sensible if:

  • You run Google Ads campaigns with complex attribution
  • You need BigQuery for custom analysis
  • You work at a company already deep in Google's ecosystem
  • You've already shouldered the compliance effort

For the vast majority of websites in the DACH region – SMEs, online shops, agencies, blogs, SaaS products – Logiwolf is the more honest, simpler and legally safer choice.

Frequently asked questions

Comparison FAQ

Is Google Analytics allowed in the EU and Switzerland?
In the EU and Switzerland, Google Analytics can only be used lawfully with the visitors' explicit consent (cookie banner) and additional technical safeguards. The data protection authorities of Austria, France, Italy and Norway have repeatedly ruled its use without these safeguards inadmissible.
What is the main difference between Logiwolf and GA?
Logiwolf collects no personal data, sets no cookies and needs no cookie banner. All data is hosted in Switzerland. Google Analytics collects personal data, sets cookies, requires consent and transfers data to the US.
Can I migrate my GA data to Logiwolf?
Existing data cannot be transferred directly, because Logiwolf stores no personal identifiers such as cookie IDs. You can run both tools in parallel to ease the transition, or use a GA data export for historical reports.
Do I lose features by switching?
For most use cases: no. Logiwolf offers all the standard features plus heatmaps and replays, which GA doesn't have at all. What you lose is primarily Google Ads-specific functionality and BigQuery export.
How long does migration take?
Installing Logiwolf takes a few minutes. We recommend running GA and Logiwolf in parallel for 1–2 months to compare data and build confidence before switching GA off completely.
